The X-Files: Songs in the Key of X Commercial 1996
The X-Files: Songs in the Key of X is a 1996 compilation album featuring music from and inspired by the television series The X-Files, released by Warner Bros. Records.
The album includes tracks by various artists such as Mark Snow, Soul Coughing, Sheryl Crow, Foo Fighters, Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds, R.E.M., Frank Black, Danzig, Rob Zombie, and P.M. Dawn.
A notable feature of the original CD release is a hidden track by Nick Cave and The Dirty Three, accessible by holding down the reverse button and rewinding past 0, with a hint in the liner notes stating "0" is also a number.
The album was executive produced by Chris Carter and David Was, and it was described as "the most ambitious record ever assembled for a TV soundtrack" by Entertainment Weekly.
The album is now available on vinyl for the first time, released by Enjoy The Ride Records in limited colored variants.
