A U.S. Army veteran was taken into custody in front of the White House after burning a flag in protest of President Donald Trump's executive order.

He said it was in protest of President Donald Trump's executive order making flag-burning a prosecutable offense. It's not yet clear what charges he may be facing.

FOX 5 DC's Bob Barnard spoke with Jay Carey, a retired Army combat veteran and Bronze Star recipient, about his demonstration.

The Trump administration released the order on Monday, Aug. 27.

"Our great American Flag is the most sacred and cherished symbol of the United States of America, and of American freedom, identity, and strength," the order reads. "Desecrating it is uniquely offensive and provocative. It is a statement of contempt, hostility, and violence against our Nation — the clearest possible expression of opposition to the political union that preserves our rights, liberty, and security."
