Happy Tarzan Day!
Today we celebrate Tarzan Day, on August 27th. This fictional character appeared that day in the novel "Tarzan of the Apes," published in 1912. As the story goes, Tarzan was raised in the African jungle by apes after his parents died. When Jane and her explorer father get trapped on the island where he lives, he falls in love with her. The novel was written by Edgar Rice Burroughs, inspired by the Roman myth of Romulus and Remus, the legendary twins raised by a she-wolf. It covers themes such as the impact of heredity on behavior, racial superiority, and the concept of civilization.
