The United States Coast Guard offloaded 76,140 pounds of illegal drugs worth $473 million in Florida, the largest haul in its history. The record haul, a result of President Donald Trump's Operation Pacific Viper, demonstrates the administration's aggressive crackdown on foreign cartels.
The seizure contained 61,740 pounds of cocaine and 14,400 pounds of marijuana. Crews interrupted 19 smuggling operations in the Eastern Pacific and Caribbean, apprehending 34 suspected traffickers. The drugs contain an estimated 23 million lethal doses of cocaine, enough to kill the entire population of Florida.
The historic offload is the largest in US Coast Guard history and demonstrates the federal government's intensifying response to transnational drug cartels. Operation Pacific Viper, the Trump administration's latest counter-narcotics initiative, seeks to intercept cartel shipments before they reach American soil. The Coast Guard District Seven commander, Rear Adm. Adam Chamie, issued a stark warning about the operation's success: "The potential 23 million lethal doses of cocaine seized … are enough to fatally overdose the entire population of the state of Florida."
