Replace Genocide With a New International and Development Architecture

The U.S., in the wake of the Alaska Summit between presidents Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, have been given an alternative course of action to bring about a new, security and development architecture which could overturn the chessboard of geopolitics brought to you by the City of London and Wall Street. As Vladimir Putin told a group of young Russian nuclear engineers, there is “a light at the end of the tunnel,” and the potential for renewed relations between Russia and the United States, which could manifest itself in cooperation on economic development in the Arctic, and even larger projects like the Bering Strait Tunnel Corridor which could connect both those nations, including China, Eurasia, and the Americas.

Despite this potential, the twisted, cruel logic of conflict and genocide has seemed to take on a life of its own in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, where Israel is now preparing for a total takeover of Gaza City, a decision which former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert charged would lead to “the deportation of hundreds of thousands of Gazans,” an outcome which is “totally unbearable and unacceptable.”

The Integrated Food Security Phase Classification system (IPC) of the UN has declared that famine conditions exist in the Gaza Governorate, an area in the Gaza Strip which includes Gaza City. According to the report, “Over a half million people in the Gaza Strip are facing catastrophic conditions characterized by starvation, destitution and death.” Just today, the Israeli Foreign Ministry responded to the IPC report by demanding an immediate retraction, accusing the IPC of promoting “Hamas fake starvation propaganda.”

A much-needed shift has taken place in the U.S. population on this question, which reflects the increasing discontent among people with the unspeakable horrors that have taken place. According to a recent poll by Quinnipiac University, half of U.S. voters believe Israel is committing a genocide against Gaza. That is 77% of Democrats, 51% of Independents, and 20% of Republicans among U.S. voters. Those who have absolved themselves of responsibility among the trans-Atlantic population, and who continue to go along to get along in their lives, are now required to act.

The ongoing war in Ukraine, which could come to an end, and the horrific nature of the genocide in Southwest Asia are not disconnected from one another. They are products of a dying imperial system, which could be superseded by a new paradigm of economic development and cooperation, with upcoming meetings such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in China, the Vladivostok Eastern Economic Forum, and the Sept. 3rd meeting in Beijing commemorating the 80th Anniversary of Victory in the Pacific. Though Trump continues to vacillate, from opening up to Russia, while at the same time imposing punitive tariffs on nations of the BRICS+, and remaining indifferent to Bibi Netanyahu’s criminality in the Gaza Strip, the responsibility lies within us, as world citizens, to organize our compatriots based on the more noble traditions expressed in our own cultural heritage of the teachings of Plato and Socrates, the Renaissance, and the American Revolution, which all express the view that all human life is equally sacred, and made in the image of a noble, loving Creator.
