When you look in a mirror, you don’t clean yourself with it—the mirror only shows you the dirt. In the same way, God’s Law was never given to make us righteous. It reveals our sin and shows us that we can’t measure up by our own efforts. The Law is a mirror, not a soap.

But the good news is this: the Law points us to Jesus Christ. He alone is our Savior and our righteousness. We are not made clean by keeping rules, but by the blood of Christ and His finished work on the cross.
