New Jersey child, 8, leap from second-story window into officer’s arms as blaze engulfs home

On Monday, August 25, 2025, an 8-year-old boy was heroically rescued from a burning home on Prospect Avenue in Asbury Park, New Jersey, just before 9 a.m. The fire, which started on the first floor, sent heavy smoke and flames billowing through the two-story residence, trapping the boy upstairs while his mother was at work. Two residents on the lower floor evacuated safely, but the boy was stranded at a second-floor window, crying for help.

The boy was rushed to a nearby hospital for smoke inhalation but made a full recovery. His mother and a neighboring family, including two children, were also hospitalized for smoke inhalation but sustained no serious injuries.
