CUSTOMIZING A REPORT CREATED FROM A TEMPLATE
GETTING STARTED
 Open the file IL_WD19_5a_FirstLastName_1.docx, available for download from the
SAM website.
 Save the file as IL_WD19_5a_FirstLastName_2.docx by changing the “1” to a “2”.
o If you do not see the .docx file extension in the Save As dialog box, do not type it.
The program will add the file extension for you automatically.
 To complete this SAM Project, you will also need to download and save the following
data files from the SAM website onto your computer:
o Support_WD19_5a_List.docx
o Support_WD19_5a_Quotation.docx
o Support_WD19_5a_Table.docx
 With the file IL_WD19_5a_FirstLastName_2.docx still open, ensure that your first
and last name is displayed in the footer.
o If the footer does not display your name, delete the file and download a new copy
from the SAM website.
PROJECT STEPS
1. As a marketing analyst at Elliott Reid Pharmaceuticals, you are developing a report for
other members of the Marketing Department. You created the report using a template
and need to customize elements of the document and its formatting.
Change the left and right margins to 0.8" to remove the extra white space on the cover
page and reduce the length of the lines in the rest of the document.
2. On page 1, delete the content control displaying today's date, and then delete the blank
paragraph that included the content control to avoid dating the report.
3. Type Elliott Reid in the Company Name content control to display the company name
on the cover page.
4. Apply the Basic (Elegant) style set to use the standard style set for Elliott Reid reports.
5. Create custom theme colors and fonts to apply to this report and other Elliott Reid
reports as follows:
a. Create a customized set of theme colors named Elliott Reid that uses Teal,
Accent 6 as the Accent 3 color and Green, Accent 4 as the Hyperlink color.
b. Create a customized set of theme fonts named Reports that uses Calibri as the
heading font and Calibri Light as the body font.
6. On page 2, create a new paragraph style as follows to use for introduction text:
a. Create a paragraph style named Intro based on the first body paragraph ("Why do
consumers…and personal choice.").
b. Change the Spacing Before paragraph setting of the Intro style to 12 point.
c. Change the font size of the Intro style to 14 point.
7. On page 2, insert a hyperlink as follows to supply some missing information:
a. Replace the text "[insert email address]" with the text info@er.cengage.com to
insert the company email address for information requests.
b. Format the text "info@er.cengage.com" as a hyperlink that links to the
info@er.cengage.com email address.
c. Add the ScreenTip Elliott Reid email address to the hyperlink.
8. Move row 4 in the "Top Reasons for Buying a New Product" table so that it becomes row
1 and provides headings for each column in the table.
9. Insert a table showing survey results as follows without changing the formatting of the
original table:
a. Copy the table in the file Support_WD19_5a_Table.docx.
b. Select the paragraph "[insert table here]" and then keep source formatting as you
paste the table.
10. Insert a quotation from a marketing expert as follows without changing the formatting of
the original text:
a. Copy the paragraph in the file Support_WD19_5a_Quotation.docx.
b. Select the paragraph "[insert quotation here]" and then keep source formatting as
you paste the quotation paragraph.
11. Insert a bulleted list Elliott Reid uses in many documents as follows:
a. Save the bulleted list in the file Support_WD19_5a_List.docx as a Quick Part
using Survey as the name of the Quick Part.
b. Insert the Survey Quick Part in the blank paragraph at the end of the document to
include the bulleted list in the report.
12. Change the bullet used in the new list to a checkmark from the Bullet Library (symbol
252 in Wingdings) to add emphasis to the list.
Your document should look like the Final Figure on the following pages. Save your changes, close
the document, and then exit Word. Follow the directions on the SAM website to submit your
completed project.
