Where's the money going?

Where’s the Money Going? Two months ago, the district said it couldn’t balance the education budget. At first I thought it was local mismanagement. But I dug deeper. A friend handed me bills from the last legislative session. One turned into three hundred. The truth? $10–15 billion has been pulled out of Texas public schools. HB 9 – drains $1.5B in property-tax funding from schools. HB 42 – shifts $4.2B out of the education fund. HB 120 – small dollars, but locks school funds into carve-outs. SB 2 – a $1B voucher scheme for private schools. And $80M of that goes straight to the Comptroller + 5 designees — not classrooms. So it’s not mismanagement here at home. It’s structural robbery in Austin. That’s why I built a real civics curriculum — to teach our kids how to read bills, follow the money, and see corruption for themselves. Because the choice is simple: educate the next generation to spot corruption… or let politicians quietly bankrupt our schools.
