SBC Family,

Tomorrow morning, I will spend some time showing briefly how to teach a Biblical Framework on a simple level.

Then we will start looking at church history. Maybe six or seven lessons. I’ll introduce several reasons why we should study church history when we get started and then start looking at the Scriptures related to an early issue in church history. What is the authority? Is the authority the apostles or the apostles' writings? This will lead us into the second related issue. What books are in the canon of Scripture?

I've attached several documents. This is how to teach creation according to the 3-strands of history, doctrine, and apologetics. It shows how it can be done. I just put this together really quick. My teaching and philosophy of teaching is word based rather than image based, because God has given us His word rather than images. What words do is stimulate our minds to form images. So, the images I use are quite limited. They are designed not to replace our imagery but to convey the general imagery behind the specific imagery in the text. For example, I use the Creator-creature distinction but I don't use an image to show day 1 of creation. The basic imagery is so we are all on the same page. The lack of specific imagery is to allow for much more complex images to form in our minds from the text itself. Some help/direction can be given in this respect since it has proven to be difficult for people to put together the specific imagery. E.g. a lit water sphere on day 1 of creation. But, the help can be word based. So, any images you see in these documents are not entirely necessary.

Another part of my philosophy is that believing children have the Holy Spirit, so we don't need to speak down to them or make everything in images. We need to speak above what we normally would think. I have over 20 years of having children in my adult services and those that even minimally applied themselves are remarkably more spiritually mature than most adults. I still have them contacting me years later looking for the same type of teaching for themselves and their families. The Holy Spirit works. We can use the Bible without putting all the cookies on the lowest shelf. Give them the goods and let the Holy Spirit use it. Then miraculous things happen. I've added a few other attachments here for those who are interested. I have tons of material available ranging from everything from ark stability modeling to ancient Egyptian chronology.
