The tunnel bus between Windsor, Ontario and Detroit, Michigan is ceasing regular service this weekend, with the final Canada-bound bus scheduled to depart Detroit at 11:41 pm on Saturday, August 30th

The only public transit bus between Canada and the United States, the tunnel bus is funded by the city of Windsor and operated with regularly-scheduled service seven days a week

The service’s stoppage comes after Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens vetoed an attempt by Windsor’s city council earlier this year to continue the service with a doubled fare (raised to $20 each way from the current $10 fare). Dilkens’ mayoral decision cited Trump’s threatened tariffs and concern of lower total revenue with the raised fare in his reasoning for vetoing the city council’s decision

Transit Windsor will continue to operate a special event bus for select sporting events and concerts for the next few months, with that service set to no longer be available starting December 21st
