Medical industry is more a cult than a cartel | Medical coder Zowe Smith

"Is [the healthcare industry] a cartel, like a mafia, or is it a cult?"

Medical whistleblower, author, and former medical coder with more than a decade of experience in the industry Zowe (@Zowe_TKMC) describes for The New Prisoners (@TNPonTwatter) how the healthcare industry is like a cult, as opposed to a cartel.

"[P]eople that are in a cult don't know they're in a cult. People that are in a cartel, they kinda know they're in the cartel. Even if they're not at high levels of the cartel, maybe they're just contracting with the cartel, they have an idea," Zowe says. On the contrary, she notes for those in a cult "you could shake someone, and try and wake them up, and be like, 'You're in a cult, don't take the Kool-Aid,' and they won't believe you..."

"[T]hat's how medicine is," the whistleblower says.

Zowe adds that people in healthcare are literally indoctrinated, "which is why they all say the same thing..." The author adds that as a result of her whistle blowing, she's been called names and received death threats even though she's not in the field anymore.
