Flame Hardening!

This is a process to locally heat treat an area of steel. Keep in mind that the steel needs to be heat treatable; carbon or alloy steel containing .2% carbon or more. On the BFG-50A, the receiver is thin alloy sheet steel and though it's strong, without hardening this area of the ejection port it would get dinged up. Not what you want on an expensive rifle!
