Introduction to 1 Timothy.

Ephesus was the center of Artemis worship, which was essentially the same as Isis, Ishtar, and other warrior-fertility goddess cults around the world. It was a dark, demonic place, and Timothy had to be on extra high alert to keep those pagan ideas and practices from creeping into the Ephesian assembly.
