Impossible

What just happened is demonstration of how the mind works. It identifies a problem, suggests a solution, and then get stuck in a loop: “I will take it step by step, and everything will be OK.” This provides some satisfaction for a while. Until another problem appears, and the cycle resumes. The mind keeps control. People can spend decades in this problem-solving mode, doing, achieving, and rescuing themselves or others. The alternative, which confuses the mind, is to surrender by accepting: “I don’t know. I can’t. This is it.”
Why is that hard? Because the mind tries to do something, and by finding an excuse or a reason, it returns to activities such as thinking, planning, and executing. When we shift from doing to being, we allow everything to be as it is and rest in That.
It does not have to be comfortable, familiar, or pleasurable. It can be unpredictable and change. It is important here to bring awareness to something larger than ourselves. We start by recognizing the people in our lives (others), and then expand our awareness to encompass an even larger system (the Other). As we recognize forces greater than ourselves, we realise that it is impossible to fully understand the chain of causes and consequences. It is too vast for the mind to grasp. This is awakening. We awaken to That — Spirit, God, Higher Power. We stop struggling when we accept that we cannot predict what will happen next. It is simply impossible. There are no guarantees.
