Everyone Burned in the Tank—Except Him

June 1944, Normandy. When a German shell set his Sherman ablaze, Ben Sally was left alone inside, burned and surrounded. With his uniform on fire, he manned the machine gun and held the crossroads for thirty minutes, repelling assaults and killing dozens.
