Democratic Rep. Jerry Nadler will not seek reelection

Rep. Jerrold Nadler, D-N.Y., announced he will not seek re-election next year, ending his 34-year congressional career.

Nadler, 78, cited the need for generational change in the Democratic Party and reflected on stepping down from House Judiciary Committee leadership earlier this term.

A longtime liberal leader and vocal critic of Donald Trump, he played a key role in advancing impeachment articles in 2019.

Nadler has not named a successor but may support Assemblyman Micah Lasher, Fox News has reported.

Colleagues praised his decades of leadership on civil rights, justice, and New York City issues, calling him a “champion of progressivism” and “one of the nation’s greatest public servants.”
