Maduro vows to declare a “republic in arms” if U.S. forces in the Caribbean attack Venezuela

Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro warned Monday that he would “constitutionally declare a republic in arms” if the U.S. attacked Venezuela, amid Washington’s deployment of additional naval forces to the Caribbean to combat Latin American drug cartels.

Maduro claimed eight U.S. vessels with 1,200 missiles threatened his country, prompting him to mobilize troops and call for militia enlistment.

While the U.S. denies plans for a land invasion, it has increased its naval presence, including destroyers and amphibious assault ships, CBS News has reported.

Maduro dismissed U.S. actions as based on a “false narrative” about cocaine trafficking and accused Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio of seeking regime change, warning that any attack would “stain” Trump’s hands with blood.
