Western Cape schools secure teaching posts for 2026 despite budget uncertainty

The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) has confirmed that the “Basket of Posts” allocation for teaching positions in 2025—totaling 35,934—will be retained for the 2026 academic year, offering schools some much-needed staffing stability. However, the province continues to grapple with fiscal uncertainty, and while no post reductions are expected, any additional posts to accommodate further learner growth will depend on greater clarity in the education budget.
