Magh Tuireadh — The Spear of Lugh | Occidentum Lux

The Light of the West rises.

Occidentum Lux is a synth journey into the forgotten myths of our Celtic brothers of the West — a call back to the ancient warriors who stood unbroken against invasion, against annihilation, and against the forces that sought to erase their people.

This track is inspired by the Second Battle of Magh Tuireadh (pronounced “Maw Too-rah”), one of the most legendary tales in Irish mythology, where gods, warriors, and mortals fought side by side for the freedom of Éire.

The Story Behind the Song

At the heart of this myth stands Lugh Lámhfhada — Lugh of the Long Arm.
A warrior, a king, a poet, a craftsman, and a god of light and skill, Lugh was destined to change the fate of Ireland forever.

Wielding his magic spear, known as the Spear of Gorias, Lugh faced the monstrous Balor of the Evil Eye, leader of the invading Fomor — chaotic beings of darkness and destruction who came from across the sea to enslave Ireland and its people.

In a single, legendary strike, Lugh cast his spear and destroyed Balor, turning the tide of battle and ensuring victory for the Tuatha Dé Danann — the Children of the Goddess Danu, divine ancestors of the Irish people.

The Second Battle of Magh Tuireadh

The battlefield, Magh Tuireadh — meaning “Plain of the Pillars” — lies in County Sligo, Ireland.
Here, the Tuatha Dé Danann fought for survival against the oppressive rule of the Fomor.

Tuatha Dé Danann → “People of the Goddess Danu,” skilled in magic, art, and warfare
Fomor / Fomorians → dark, chaotic invaders from beyond the sea
Danu → the great mother goddess, origin of divine power and life
Balor → the Fomorian warlord, wielding the Evil Eye
Lugh → grandson of Balor, but destined to defeat him and lead his people

This wasn’t just a battle of armies — it was a clash of light vs. darkness, freedom vs. tyranny, and the eternal struggle to preserve identity, land, and spirit.

This is Occidentum Lux — The Light of the West — carrying forward the memory of our Celtic brothers, their struggles, and their victories.

Meaning Behind the Music

This track isn’t just about mythology.
It’s about the eternal spirit of resistance — of remembering who we are, where we came from, and what it takes to protect it.
It’s a tribute to the warriors of the past, a battle hymn for the present, and a reminder that legends never die.

Lyrics:

The Fomor rise from the sea…
Shadows fall upon Ireland’s green…
But from the west, a light ascends…
Lugh… of the Long Arm…

Rise, warriors of Danu…
Strike for your land!
Strike for your freedom!
For the sons yet unborn!

Rise! ......Rise!

Tuatha Dé Danann
Rise!
Rise!
Strike the Fomor down!

For Ireland! ........For Danu!

I am the spear that spills battle…
I am the hawk on the cliff…
I am the god who fashions fire…
And I am Lugh… I do not yield.

Lugh of the Long Arm… Lugh of the Long Arm…

Ireland stands!
We are the storm!
Fomor fall…
Magh Tuireadh remembers!

Ireland Forever!
Victory! Victory!

I am the spear,
I am the storm,
I am Lugh of the Long Arm…
Ireland is free.
