Afghanistan quake: Rescue teams struggle to reach remote villages

Ibrahim Ahmed of Islamic Relief told Al Jazeera that rescue efforts after Afghanistan’s earthquake are severely hindered by geography and destroyed infrastructure.
Most victims are in remote Kunar province, with volunteers carrying the injured for hours to reach clinics.
Over 900 have been killed and 2,500 injured, but the toll is likely higher as many areas remain inaccessible.
Flash floods and landslides days before the quake worsened the humanitarian response.
Key challenges include limited access, lack of helicopters, and severe funding shortfalls.
Health care, shelter, food security, and clean water are urgent needs for survivors.
Ahmed warned that without swift aid, casualties will continue to rise in devastated villages.
