Operation Meghdoot | How India Captured Siachen | Siachen History
Operation Meghdoot was the codename for India's successful military operation to capture the Siachen Glacier in 1984. The operation was a strategic move to secure the high-altitude region, located in the northern part of the disputed Kashmir region, from Pakistani control. Facing a potential threat from Pakistan, which had been making moves to occupy the glacier, India launched a preemptive strike to establish control over the area.
Despite the extreme weather conditions and treacherous terrain, Indian forces swiftly moved in and secured key positions, effectively gaining control of the glacier and surrounding peaks. The operation demonstrated India's military capability and resolve to defend its territorial integrity. However, the ongoing conflict over Siachen highlights the challenges and human costs associated with maintaining control over the world's highest battlefield.
