Freedom Fighter

I am a freedom fighter, I’ve nothing left to lose
My house, my kin, my friends all gone
My anger’s what I choose.

I am a freedom fighter, my rifle keeps me warm
I kill in the name of what I believe
Of bloody hands was I born.

I am a freedom fighter, that’s all that I have left
No love, no food, no shelter at all
To victims’ cries am I deaf.

I am a freedom fighter, from this prison in lowly hell
I really do not know any better
I’ll throw my life down a well.

My life, you see, means so little in the larger scheme of things
If I can make clear the way for our righteous advancing kings
I’d lay down my life in a heartbeat, death strapped upon my chest
I have so little to gain here, in glorious death will I rest.

I am a freedom fighter, not handsome, tall or well-built
Your eye in my sights makes us equal
As I ignore any feelings of guilt.

I am a freedom fighter, hungry and I smell
Of dirt and blood and sweat and more
And secrets I’ll not tell.

I am a freedom fighter, in rags that cover my face
No one sees my awful coming
My killings leave no trace.

I am a freedom fighter, for a cause that I hold dear
My colored skin and scars within
Will surely disappear.

And so, you see, I carry on, in muck, in dirt, in pain
I don’t suspect you’ll understand my hatred and disdain
A crust of bread, a bowl of rice, a rotting piece of meat
Is heaven to the hungry, sustains us in the heat.

I am a freedom fighter, I’ve nothing left to lose
No car, no home, no children to love
Opulence lights my fuse.

Yes, I am a freedom fighter, and I commit until the end
In my mind it stands for something
Not flocks that I must tend.

So join me as a freedom fighter, give all your goods away
And creep inside this mortal coil
Moment in a minute in every day.

To fight and die, to curse and lie
In the name of some god’s laws.
