Ray McGovern, the former CIA analyst, calls Putin’s meeting with Xi a ‘tectonic’ moment in global affairs and the result of a failed U.S. policy in Ukraine and Asia. He quoted George Kennan, the former U.S. diplomat, who said (in 1948): “We shall cease to talk about vague and unreal objectives such as human rights, the raising of the living standards, and democratization. The day is not far off when we are going to have to deal in straight power concepts.”
