As a mother of two sons with terminal Duchenne muscular dystrophy and being disabled myself, it's rough to watch your children suffer. Knowing that joy and happiness can be healing for children dealing with these depressing sicknesses is a burden no one should have to bear alone.

That's why helping the Starlight Children's Foundation and participating in Face of Halloween is a blessing. I'd love to garner more support for this cause as a woman with a pen and a heart that mirrors Dolly Parton! I'd love to see a matchup of Dolly&Elvira!

For those who aren't aware, Face of Horror was renamed this year to Face of Halloween, and I competed last year.

The main purpose is fundraising for sick children. If you can get donation votes to bring a smile and some hope to these kids, that's what it should be about. While it's great to get in the magazine, meet horror celebrities, and win the $13,000, the real goal is to be a Halloween enthusiast and show your love for the theme. To say the contest isn't legitimate and then ignore its purpose of helping sick children shows a lack of heart. We're all here to drive donations for these kids. The incentive is that someone will get the cash prize, a photoshoot, and a magazine spread, but if you're not here for the right reasons, you should drop out.

I am constantly doing these things and looking to network. It's obvious there are so many great creatives here. If we banded together, we could create the next Halloween! Remember, the original was an indie effort. Jamie Lee Curtis has said they helped build the sets. The $13,000 is great, and any filmmaker could use it, but if you're already doing the work, share your stuff! Let's love Halloween together and see what we can create. I’d love to meet people who love cosplay, gothic literature, spooky things, and true crime. As an author and screenwriter, I see this as a great contest because it brings so many awesome people together. Let's make art.
