If the elites were convinced of the superiority of capitalism, they would not have needed the House Un-American Activities Committee to root out the threat of communism. It would not have felt the need to isolate the USSR, or Cuba for that matter. It would not have devolved into the National Security State. It would not feel compelled to spend more on “defence” than the rest of the world combined.

China has built an enormous army of engineers, scientists and technologists that the West cannot match. In China, the government cultivated the intelligence of the people and their desire for a better life by opening access to education. In the West, the cost of education increased dramatically over the last 5 decades to the point that getting educated is a risk for young people, a lifelong debt trap rather than the opportunity it should be.
