Activision Turned Down Steven Spielberg’s Offer to Direct Call of Duty Movie

Activision reportedly turned down Steven Spielberg’s offer to direct the announced Call of Duty movie since he wanted more creative control.

It was announced earlier this week that Activision is partnering with Paramount to create a Call of Duty movie based on the popular FPS game. Steven Spielberg is a big fan of the franchise and has even helped develop games in the past such as Medal of Honor, a series that was a direct competitor to the early Call of Duty games. Activision’s decision to go with Paramount instead of Spielberg and his company suggests Call of Duty is going to be a movie built by the executive through committee and that’s usually a recipe for a soulless project that doesn’t appeal to anyone.
