We're All Subsidizing AI Data Centers

With an electric grid that is already strained and no real plans to update and expand capacity, the rapid growth of "data centers" in the US is set to be paid in full by you and me. According to the video author this is the long-standing mode of operation for changes to be made to any one of the "nodes" of the nationwide grid. Considering that the drain from these centers is enormous, would not it make sense to isolate the payment for this high level draw from power generation to the class who directly benefit from the drain?
