The population of Valladolid used to have a square area of 100 m2 in the center, in which a Mayan pyramid was preserved that was demolished by the conquistadors who used the stones for the construction of the parish church, municipal palace and main houses.

In its place they left a large esplanade known as Plaza de Armas.
The fence of the park was inaugurated in 1900 during the government of General Francisco Cantón Rosado, who was the donor personally.
