Mold doesn't cause disease, synthetic environments do. When healing, don't address the mold, but address the toxicity. When healing your home, don't address the mold, address the root cause, which is the synthetic substrate.

This is a really interesting study to think about the fundamental implications of the Terrain, and confounding variables.

Let us assume that a black mold synthesizes a VOC as a part of its natural metabolism. However, black mold only grows in swamps (it has also never been proven that mold in swamps synthesize VOCs) and on damp building materials.

Isolating a black mold species from a synthetic building material and growing it on an inert substance still allows that species to persist temporarily. This allows it to temporarily produce VOCs. What is the real world validity of such an experiment? The black mold can not grow on these substrates naturally?

My apologies, I couldn't find the paper I was referencing. I will continue to search.
