Wat Mongkol Thep: Golden Chapel & Meditation Center in Chachoengsao Thailand
Wat Mongkol Thep (also spelled Wat Mongkhon Thep, วัดมงคลเทพ) is a serene Buddhist temple located in Pak Nam Subdistrict, Bang Khla District, Chachoengsao Province, Thailand.
Originally established as a meditation center by wandering monks, it was officially declared a temple on June 3, 1999, under the Mahanikaya sect. The temple received permission to be built on October 11, 1994 on land donated to the temple.
The first abbot, Phra Athikarn Bancha Siriwichayo, was appointed as Phra Khru Phawanasitkun Wi.
The temple serves as the 27th meditation center in Chachoengsao Province.
The temple is primarily a place for meditation and Buddhist practice, with daily activities from 5:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. It is known for its tranquil environment, making it a spiritual destination for worship and blessings.
The temple is renowned for its stunning golden chapel, which houses the revered Phra Buddha Pathom Maha Anantabarami Sriviriya (Somdej Ong Pathom), a beautiful Buddha statue adorned in imperial regalia. The statue is surrounded by 10,000 smaller Buddha statues, adding to its grandeur.
The chapel, built between 2008 and 2010, has a 1.5-meter-high base, is 9.40 meters wide, and 30.50 meters long. Its interior features marble-covered walls and floors, while the exterior is made of brick with white-washed sand plaster. The east gable displays 100 aluminum bas-relief images of the Lord Buddha, and the west gable has 101 images of Phra Mongkhon Thepmuni (Sod Chanthasaro). The chapel is surrounded by a glass wall measuring 33.75 meters wide and 54.85 meters long.

Wat Mongkol Thep is a place for practicing Dhamma and is less touristy compared to other temples in Chachoengsao, such as Wat Saman Rattanaram (known for its giant pink Ganesha statue). It attracts devotees for its serene atmosphere and opportunities for meditation and prayer. Visitors can pay respects to the Buddha statue and seek blessings at the hands of Luang Por on both sides of the statue.
The temple is part of Chachoengsao’s rich Buddhist heritage, alongside other notable temples like Wat Sothon Wararam Worawihan and Wat Pho Bang Khla. It is worth a visit to see if you are in the area.
