The King Who Repented as David Did

I Chronicles Chapter 18-20

As we open up chapter 18 of 2 Chronicles, historically, it was a time of national crisis for the nation on two fronts. First of all, there was a famine going on in the land. It was so severe the Bible says in that a donkey's head was selling for a few hundred dollars.

To make matters worse, the kingdom is divided between the north and south. Up north, they are facing a pending invasion by Syria. The Syrians have surrounded the northern kingdom, and they are planning to attack.

The northern kingdom is in panic. The king of Northern Kingdom is King Ahab, who is one of the evilest kings of either the northern or the southern Kingdom! Ahab is mentioned here because there is some kind of an unhealthy and alliance getting established between Jehoshaphat and Ahab.

We saw last time, that Jehoshaphat was a good and godly man, a good and godly king. He's a good man who did a bad thing. He is a good king with a great weakness. For some reason, he is intrigued with the northern kingdom of Israel.

Even as we read that Jehoshaphat had riches and honor he still and a bit unbelievably, allied himself with the evil King Ahab! This brought King Jehoshaphat into close relationship with this vile and wicked king. It was a spiritual move downward for Jehoshaphat to align himself with such a pagan king as King Ahab, and Jehoshaphat is about to find out.
