Do You Really Mean 'Thy Will Be Done'?
In the first reading today, the wise man questions our true desire to do God’s will, highlighting our tendency to prioritize our own desires. Jesus’ teachings, such as loving God and neighbor and detaching from possessions, challenge our materialistic and selfish tendencies. We must examine our hearts, seeking charity and love, and consider the impact of our attachments on our ability to love and serve God and others.
Fr. Altier emphasizes the importance of doing God’s will, even when it is difficult, using the example of Onesimus, a runaway slave who returned to his master, Philemon, after a conversion. He highlights the need to prioritize God’s will in all aspects of life, including marriage and parenting, and to seek His will through prayer and self-denial. He concludes by stressing that true discipleship requires carrying one’s cross and following Christ’s teachings.
