God Humbles a King

In Daniel chapter four, we learn that the king has another dream. The dream is so troubling that Daniel is reluctant to share parts of it with the king. In verse 19 we see where Daniel wishes that the dream was about the kings enemies but we know this will not be the case. The dream describes a tree that is so high and strong it will reach the heavens and that it will be seen by all the earth. It will grow fruit that will provide food for everyone, the leaves are lovely, the beasts and birds find their homes near and in it. Daniel has to profess to the king that the tree is the king himself.

Daniel proceeds to tell the king that there is a watcher, a holy one coming from heaven to chop and destroy the tree but do not totally remove the stump or the roots. At this point Nebuchadnezzar loses his faculties and becomes like an animal grazing in the field. His men are removed from his authority and this will take place for seven times until he acknowledges that the Most High (God) is the King of kings. This is the crux of the dream, God gives to men and God will take from men, in other words God will bless and God also disciplines those He loves (Hebrews 12:6). The Most High then tells the king that once he realizes Heaven rules over everything, then his kingdom will be returned to him. Daniel implores the king to receive his advice in an honorable way and that the king should turn away from his sin and become more righteous by showing mercy to the poor.

Chapter four and a bit in chapter five is the last we hear of Nebuchadnezzar. He fades out of the picture but through the book of Daniel we learned that God is in control of the heavens and the earth. There is no one greater than God and when we start to believe the lies of the devil, our lives become much more difficult no navigate in. We see here that God is a God of mercy and He knows our lives from the beginning to the end. He could have very well have put an end to Nebuchadnezzar but chose not to. God instead brought him to a place of humility knowing that God has mercy on those He wishes and hardens whom He wills (Romans 9:18).

The path for our life has already been determined by God from before time (Ephesians 1:4). When we seek the Lord’s guidance in all aspects of our lives then we are truly living in God’s will. If we deviate from God’s will, then we subject ourselves to the world’s way of living, the world’s way of thinking while approaching solutions to the problems we face on a daily basis. Our goal is to stay under God’s protection and to seek His wisdom and knowledge for all the things we do and all the decisions we have to make. There is no better place than to be in God’s will why, because God knows the beginning, the end and everything in between, He knows all. Our life with God as our leader becomes a life filled with love, joy, peace and contentment especially at time in trials and turmoil.

God gives us a spiritual confidence to face the daily problems we will experience with the solution already available to us. All God asks us to do is seek Him, seek His love and turn our lives over to Him so He may give us the things we need to sustain us. All too often we ask God to give us the things that will cause us to sin and lose focus on Him which will ultimately deter our relationship with Him. God knows this and will not provide those things that will separate ourselves from Him. When we realize God is in control as we see in Daniel chapter four we see His provisions and we also see His righteousness, and through it all we see He is a God of love, grace and mercy. Through our relationship with Jesus Christ we will experience a beautiful life with the Triune God for the rest of our days and for eternity.

I pray that for the rest or lives we do not lose focus on what is truly important to God. I pray that our relationship grows greater than we could ever imagine and I pray that the Lord becomes the center of our Lives. I pray the bondage that we are in from the world is broken and the healing begins in Christ, with Christ. I pray that we acknowledge that Jesus is the only way to the kingdom of heaven and hearts and minds will change. That the light shine brightly in our lives so we may live for eternity. In the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ, I pray Amen! Amen!
