Presence

At some point, understanding becomes impossible. What should we do then? We listened and did whatever was necessary. What’s left? We are and That. This is the activity: being with. So, if the mind asks, “What are we doing here? What is this activity?” The answer is: it’s Being.

This can really confuse the mind. “Whoa!" it might ask, "How do you measure this? Why would you do this?” Because at some point in life, there is no other choice. There is nothing left to do but be with, and that’s where the Real shines through. Everything else just disappears.

Some people call it Presence. But let’s not get hung up on words — it’s an actual experience that we can share together. The more of us there are, the denser and more palpable it becomes. We can feel and sense it.

Being with and bearing That is challenging for most people. They have no experience of it and find it too intense, so they run away to avoid it.

But the Real always returns. It’s just a question of time.

When it happens, that Presence—that silence—rings with Love. Suddenly, everything that was lost is here again, and everything that seemed so important has disappeared.

Acknowledge That. You may have your own word for it or several words. Some people call it Life, the Universe, the Source, God, Allah—whatever works for you.

Acknowledge That in whatever way works for you. The invitation is to just be with.

Acknowledge the bigger system: the house, the neighborhood, the city, the country, the planet, the cosmos, and That beyond.

As we acknowledge That, there is nothing else to do. We simply return our attention to what’s in between. As we speak, what's between words. And as we notice our breath, what's between inhale and exhale.

It’s a shared experience. We’re sharing it together. Sometimes people use the word “Presence” to call That. So "resting in Presence" is another way of describing being with.

There’s nothing else to do. We can just receive what is flowing our way.
