I spoke with Eva Bartlett about her career as a journalist, what drew her to journalism and politics, and her extensive experiences in conflict zones.

She shared details about her time in Syria, where she spent 1.5 years across 15 trips between 2014 and 2021, some lasting months. She also discussed her experiences in occupied Palestine, where she spent eight months in the West Bank and a cumulative three years in the Gaza Strip, from late 2008 to June 2010, with additional visits in 2011 and intermittently until March 2013.

Eva also talked about her time in Donbass, eastern Ukraine, which she first visited in 2019, followed by trips throughout 2022, over New Year’s, and in April 2023 and May 2024.

I asked her what it’s like to live in Russia and why she chose to live there instead of the West, particularly to expose the lies propagated by Western media about Russia.
