Trump Bans Interviews In Third Countries For US Tourist Visas; Indians Hit? |Spotlight |N18G

The United States rolled out new rules for non-immigrant visas, closing a popular shortcut once used by Indian travelers. Applicants must now schedule visa interviews only in their country of citizenship or legal residence, ending the Covid-era practice of flying abroad for quicker B1 or B2 appointment slots. During the pandemic, Indians often travelled to Singapore, Bangkok, or even Frankfurt to escape delays of up to three years at home. Under the revised rules, non-immigrant visa applicants from around the world can only apply from within their country of citizenship or legal residency. Limited exceptions apply to countries without US visa operations, such as Russia and Iran. The move is part of President Donald Trump’s broader crackdown on immigration in his second presidency.
