A dinosaur-themed art installation, mimicking a New York City subway bodega, is up at the Grand Army Plaza subway station in Brooklyn

“Rex’s Dino Store”, as it is known, features a variety of Cretaceous caricatures of modern-day products, such as Clawmond Joy candy bars, MuciRex, and newspapers and magazines like The Maul Street Journal, Dinopolitan, and Sports Zillastrated. A 7-foot-tall papier-mâché dinosaur named Rex is prominently positioned inside

The installation, led by Sarah Cassidy and Akiva Leffert, is part of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA)’s Vacant Unit Activation Program, an initiative launched in 2023 that “aims to fill vacant former retail units in the subway system with creative non-traditional uses”, according to the MTA’s website. The MTA says the program “is intended to encourage visually appealing and engaging uses to make stations more welcoming and whimsical spaces for riders”

The free-to-view installation, introduced in early May 2025, can be seen at the station before entering through the turnstiles to get to the train platform
