A secretive health program for the elite only, with the goal of living to 150: China’s Project 981 is back in the spotlight after Chinese leader Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin were caught on a hot mic last week discussing the topic.

A veteran China analyst says the Chinese Communist Party may be using organ transplants to extend the lives of party elites—through industrial-scale forced organ harvesting.

Allen Zeng, senior analyst on China affairs, said: “In 2005, under then-leaders Jiang Zemin and Hu Jintao, there was a major upgrade to that program. During that time, organ transplant surgery transformed from a purely medical phenomenon into an inhuman industrial chain in China.”
