Hermann Göring at the Nuremberg Trials
Hermann Göring, the most prominent Nazi leader prosecuted at the Nuremberg Trials (1945–1946), stood as Hitler’s former deputy and head of the Luftwaffe. He faced charges including war crimes, crimes against humanity, and planning aggressive war. Throughout the trial, Göring tried to dominate the courtroom, often defending Nazi ideology and presenting himself as a loyal patriot. Despite his defiance, he was convicted on all counts and sentenced to death. The night before his execution, Göring committed suicide by swallowing a hidden cyanide capsule. His case symbolizes both the attempt of Nazi leaders to justify their crimes and the firm resolve of the Allies to establish justice.
