My name is Kevin J. Johnston, Canada’s #1 Income Tax and Corporate Tax Specialist.

You do NOT have to report capital gains on a personal tax return in Canada. There is no law anywhere that forces you to do it. Anyone who tells you otherwise doesn’t know what they’re talking about, or is just a coward repeating what the government wants you to believe.

Do not let the fearmongering of family, friends, or the CRA convince you to part with your money. You worked for it. You paid the mortgage. You built the value. It is your property and when you sell it, the money is yours — don’t hand it over to anyone.

Stand strong. Keep what’s yours. Don’t let bureaucrats or weak-willed people talk you into giving away a lifetime of hard work.
