A new twist in the Jeffrey Epstein saga has reignited debate over former President Donald Trump’s past ties to the disgraced financier. House Democrats on the Oversight Committee revealed what they claim is a 2003 birthday note from Trump to Epstein, found in Epstein’s “birthday book.” The alleged note contains playful language and a cryptic mention of a “wonderful secret.” Trump’s team swiftly dismissed the letter as a forgery, with White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt calling it “fake news” and part of a “Democrat Epstein Hoax.” She insisted Trump neither wrote nor signed the document and pledged aggressive legal action against those pushing the claim.
Vice President JD Vance suggested Democrats are selectively weaponizing Epstein’s name, noting they showed little interest in Epstein evidence during the Biden years but are quick to spotlight anything involving Trump. Meanwhile, Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) defended the release and shared an image of the note online. Critics debated whether the strange drawing on the letter was authentic or doctored, while others emphasized that no investigations or testimony from Epstein’s associates have ever tied Trump to Epstein’s trafficking operations. Even Ghislaine Maxwell and Epstein’s lawyers previously said Trump had no involvement.
The controversy coincides with intensifying political battles elsewhere in Washington. Republicans launched a new subcommittee to reassess the January 6 investigation, chaired by Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-Ga.). House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) named Reps. Eric Swalwell, Jasmine Crockett, and Jared Moskowitz to represent Democrats, warning Republicans they would “regret” trying to rewrite the committee’s findings. The move mirrors the partisan standoff of 2021, when Speaker Nancy Pelosi blocked GOP appointees to the original Jan. 6 panel.
Beyond Capitol Hill, Trump is also making headlines for tying a violent crime case to Democratic policies. Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska, who fled the war in 2022, was murdered on a Charlotte metro train by Decarlos Brown Jr., a homeless man with schizophrenia and a lengthy rap sheet. Brown had been arrested and released more than a dozen times. Trump blamed North Carolina’s Democratic leaders and “soft-on-crime” reforms, saying they enabled the tragedy. He urged voters to back Republican Senate candidate Michael Whatley, who echoed Trump’s condemnation of Governor Roy Cooper’s justice reforms. Conservatives including Stephen Miller went viral with fiery critiques of Democrats’ approach to crime, while many in North Carolina are now calling for the death penalty.
