In 1987 Indian army launched Operation Rajiv to retake a key Siachen Glacier peak from Pakistan. Named after a fallen soldier Rajiv Pande, the mission was led by Major Varinder Singh against the Pakistani-held Quaid Post.

After several attempts, Naib Subedar Bana Singh's team achieved victory. Renamed Bana Top, the capture secured Indian movement and earned Singh the Param Vir Chakra, India's highest wartime honor.
