The Cancer of Democracy:

Plato & Cicero’s Warnings**

Plato’s *Republic* warns that democracy, unchecked by wisdom, breeds a populace swayed by demagogues promising indulgence over virtue. “Democracy leads to the rule of appetites,” he writes, as ignorant citizens vote for fleeting desires, paving the way for tyrants.

Cicero, in *De Re Publica*, agrees: a passive people, led by passion, surrender liberty to flatterers. “When reason yields to vice,” he cautions, “the state falters.”

Today’s leaders champion democracy, but a docile, uninformed electorate empowers demagogues, not the nation’s good.

Heed Plato and Cicero: an engaged, wise citizenry is our only safeguard.
