The case of Krystal Mitchell is a heartbreaking yet powerful story of justice, determination, and a mother's relentless pursuit of truth.

Krystal Mitchell, a 30-year-old woman from Arizona, was found murdered in a San Diego apartment in June 2016. Her suspected killer, Raymond “RJ” McLeod, was her boyfriend at the time. After the murder, McLeod fled the country, evading authorities for years.

What makes this case extraordinary is the role of Krystal’s mother, Josephine Wentzel, a retired police detective. Heartbroken but determined, Wentzel came out of retirement to track down McLeod herself. She used her investigative skills, social media, and relentless determination to keep the case alive. Her efforts paid off—after six years on the run, McLeod was finally captured in El Salvador in 2022.

McLeod was one of the U.S. Marshals' most wanted fugitives and was the first fugitive ever placed on their list with a murder charge from San Diego. Thanks to Wentzel’s tireless work, McLeod was brought back to the U.S. to face justice.

It's a story of loss, but also of resilience—a mother who refused to give up until her daughter’s killer was found.
