Coach Smith & The Alabama Tree Frogs
Welcome to small-town Alabama—where baseball’s sacred, the concession stand sells moon pies, and Coach Michael “Smitty” Smith runs the show like he’s managing the Yankees.
Coach Smith has led the Alabama Tree Frogs Little League team for over 17 seasons, coaching 10, 11, and 12-year-old boys like they’re on scholarship to LSU. He’s intense, over-caffeinated, and takes peewee baseball more seriously than most people take their taxes.
He’s got the town wired tighter than his hamstring after wind sprints—free breakfast every Saturday at the Eagles Nest, discounted groceries, and he hasn’t paid for a loaf of bread since the Bush administration. But all of that depends on one thing: winning games. If the Tree Frogs lose, Coach risks everything—including his unofficial title as "Most Influential Man at the Piggly Wiggly."
Coach screams at everyone—players, umpires, the town dog—but not out of hate. It’s just the only volume he speaks in. He’s not racist. He’s not sexist. He just knows one bad inning can cost him his dry-cleaning discount and he refuses to go back to paying full price for pressed khakis.
And the moms? Oh, Coach learned the hard way. He never meets with more than one baseball mom at a time. Last time he did, it turned into an all-out brawl over batting order politics and who brought the better orange slices. Now it’s one-on-one “private strategy meetings” at the clubhouse every Thursday—strictly confidential… and suspiciously well-scheduled.
The Tree Frogs are a lovable crew of misfits—one kid throws like a cannon, one swings like he’s blindfolded, and one just wants to slide into home every time, even during practice. But they win. Somehow. And when they do, Coach Smith collects his rewards like a Little League warlord.
This ain’t travel ball. This is Alabama Little League.
And Coach Smith is the king of his crooked little kingdom.
