House Democrats open probe into FBI’s handling of Epstein documents

House Judiciary Committee Democrats announced an investigation into the FBI, questioning whether Director Kash Patel is intentionally withholding information related to Jeffrey Epstein.

The lawmakers, led by Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.), accused Patel of protecting individuals implicated in the Epstein files, citing his 2023 comments on a podcast where he suggested the FBI was shielding people on Epstein’s client list.

Democrats highlighted that Patel previously promised transparency, saying there would be “no cover-ups” and “no stone left unturned,” but now appears to refuse disclosure of the files once the identities involved became known.

The letter references a New York Times report detailing nearly 1,000 agents reviewing over 100,000 pages of Epstein-related documents, yet little information has been released to the public, though some was reportedly shared with former President Trump.

Questions raised include why such a large review yielded no public disclosures, what instructions agents were given, what was uncovered, and whether decisions about the files were influenced by political considerations, Fox News has reported.

The DOJ has provided thousands of documents to the House Oversight Committee, while debates continue over the alleged existence of a “client list” and claims that Epstein did not blackmail prominent individuals, fueling partisan calls for transparency.
