BRICS Challenge USD: Gold’s Big-Picture Role | The Gold Spot

Gold spot prices recently broke through the $3,500 an ounce level and quickly advanced to a all-time high of $3,673.95 an ounce, sparking speculation about how far the gold rally could go. While investors watch price action closely, experts caution that the metal’s broader role in the shifting global order is more important.

China, Russia, and India met at a summit in China, marked by a military parade and discussions about moving away from US dominance. Analysts noted this as evidence of a deeper separation from the West.

The BRICS nations have already taken steps toward de-dollarization. Russia and China now conduct most trade outside the US dollar. Digital currencies, particularly China’s digital yuan, are being used in cross-border deals. China’s CIPS system also offers an alternative to SWIFT, and leaders proposed new banking structures.

In tandem with a refocused use of local currencies, the BRICS countries are also actively topping up their gold bullion reserves at an unprecedented rate. The ultimate goal is to use the yellow precious metal as an economic backing, in place of the dollar. The elevated central bank demand resulting from this shift has had an undeniable impact on the gold and silver rallies.
