Indonesia’s finance minister Sri Mulyani ousted in major reshuffle
https://asianews.network/indonesias-finance-minister-sri-mulyani-ousted-in-major-reshuffle/
Indonesia’s finance minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati was abruptly removed with just an hour’s notice, shocking officials and markets. Known for her fiscal prudence, she reportedly clashed with President Prabowo Subianto’s ambitious big-spending plans. Her ouster raises fresh concerns over Indonesia’s economic stability.

Do you think Prabowo is so stupid, he already knew that Sri Mulyani is in bed with the ZIOPIGS but he has to wait for the right time to remove her...and of course the ZIOPIGS will create more Havoc but Prabowo is not afraid like Ibrahim Traore, he will FIGHT back and the immediate task he must do is to install new telecommunications like what Ibrahim Traore has done because the ZIOPIGS control surveillance in in Singapore and the ZIOPIGS can listen to everything...

Focus has turned to two-time Finance Minister and trusted Jokowi ally Sri Mulyani Indrawati, who is facing calls on social media to resign.
While she was not implicated in the scandal, Ms Indrawati, a former World Bank managing director, has gone on a media blitz, seeking to restore public trust in the institution and maintain tax compliance before the filing deadline at the end of this month.

Why ASEAN is so closed to My Heart?
“The future depends on what we do in the present" – Mahatma Ghandi
I am an ordinary Asian that think a lot. I often asked God, “Why have we lost faith in men by surrendering to our destiny instead of fighting back with our strength and belief? We should make the world as it should be, instead of accepting it as it is. If I am the Prime Minister of Singapore, I will set up an exchange program for Palestinian and Israeli students to help bridge the great divide. Next, I will get the government to pay for the blueprint cost in the total planning and concept design for the ASEAN Headquarter name ASEAN House in Indonesia. Last, but not least, I would set up a committee to look into the possibility to come out with a creative universal spiritual education for the secular schools.
ASEAN is very much closed to my heart because ASEAN’s future is our future and the future of the generations to come.
Singapore is a fragile nation because she pays lip service to her culture, but money making is the priority and only goal.
Culture Matters: Individual Success and Community Success
http://www.asianfortunenews.com/2013/05/qulture-matters-individual-success-and-community-success/
Without a strong culture deeply rooted in the mindset of its citizens, Singapore can disintegrate. Or worse we will be very easily influenced by the western culture of self, greed and arrogance. The west will in no time win the minds and hearts of our people.
“Speaking from an illuminati satellite city of Singapore, the way MNCs and politically affiliated businessmen and politician’s leeches of 90% of our currency is disgusting.
Amassing human slaves like tsunamis, followed by the construction new flats with a cell tower built for every one of them and of course, the daily intake of fluoridate water, the usual PC/TV/Call and media propaganda we have always been the lab rat for human mind control experiment.
Our citizens have been reduced to mindless zombies living a life of caged animals. I've watched videos on animal cruelty but the most shocking part was not at the violence nor the painful angry screams, it was the familiarity in our actual living environment and how desensitized we have become”.
Jason Tan - July 10, 2016 at 12.51 am
One day my son came back from the army and he was very angry and he said, "Mama, the Government said that Malaysia is our enemy."
I asked him, "Do you believe Malaysia is our enemy?" He said, "Of course not, if they were our enemies why are they giving us water?"
I told him let the Government said what they liked. As long as the people have a mind of their own we will know what is best for us. I told him not to worry because when the time come for the people to make hard decision, I believe the people from both sides of the Causeway will do the right thing for our children’s future, instead of allowing the leaders to confuse us.

Singapore and KL - benefiting from each other
Malaysia’s Foreign Minister Syed Hamid Albar played moderator to some of the country’s brightest minds at that forum, telling them to discard historical baggage when dealing with Singapore. (Straits Times September 5, 2002)
He also urges young professionals to improve their networking and ties with Singaporeans. While politicians on both sides of the Causeway are prone to clashing over issues, he said that no one should lose sight of the fact that Malaysia and Singapore stand to benefit from this social-economic relationship.
He noted that Singapore was Malaysia’s main trading partner and one of its biggest investors, and that six million tourist arrivals in the country last year were Singaporeans.
“Prosper thy neighbor also applies to Singapore. Malaysia is no threat to Singapore.” He said. He added that Southeast Asia was not the Arab world and that Singapore need not conduct itself like Israel. The minister was addressing a gathering of several hundred people organized by the Association of Young Malaysian Professionals in Kuala Lumpur.
The association has among its member’s lawyers, doctors and engineers from all walks of life. In his speech, Malaysia-Singapore relations: From Integration to Separation, Datuk Syed Hamid outlined the factors that led to the merger and eventual separation of both countries.
With the benefit of hindsight, he said that the separation had worked out in the best interests of both countries. He said that the merger had appeared unworkable from the beginning.
“I must say that it is separation that has brought the countries to where we are today. Both countries chart their own destinies. Both have emerged as models of economic success.” But he added that the separation had led to negative developments as well.
Malaysia and Singapore have developed their own perception of those issues and this had created a gap between the countries. Envy and jealousy have also crept in. “A more dangerous situation arose when talk of war was made by certain irresponsible individuals,” he said.
During his lecture, he posed several questions to the young audience and challenged them to find solutions. The questions were:
1) How do Malaysia and Singapore overcome historical baggage?
We either wait for the two 'strong will old men' to leave this world or we ignore their constant quarrel or be indifference and continue to build good relationships regardless of the outcome of their quarrels for the sake of our children.
2) Can friendly competition develop between the two countries?
Why not? This is the way to go to push both our nations to excel in a very competitive world. When necessary we should join hands to flourish, just like what Mao Tze Tung and Admiral Chiang Kai Shek did - common sense will prevail or take over, instead of allowing emotion to take centre stage.
3) Can emotions make way for pragmatism?
Definitely possible but with a good dose of pragmatism.

I’m My Mother’s Wisdom
My sentiments for Malaysia were very much influenced by what I heard as a young child from my mother during the 60's. (Both my parents were from Malaysia and all my relatives still live in Malaysia).
Although my mother had only a primary three education from China but as far as politics were concerned, she has very strong views on what ‘it should be’!
On the security issue between Malaysia and Singapore, it was very sad that after the 1969 riots, we were told that Malaysia was our enemy. (My teachers told us so too.). My teachers said that Singapore is liked Israel and we got to defend ourselves no matter what.
I came back from school and told my mother what my teachers had told us. She said, "How can Malaysia be our enemy when we have families across the Causeway, and Malaysia is still giving us water?" She said that we could never be enemies because of our families' ties; in short, we are inseparable, just like Siamese twins because we are connected by blood through our extended family.
On the water issue, my mother said that the late Mr. Lee Kuan Yew thought that he was smart by getting the British on our side and signed the water deal at 3 cents. She said that Malaysia had no choice then, but she believed the day would come that the sleeping tiger will arise and get even with Singapore.
She said that if the then Mr. Lee Kuan Yew can make water for Singaporeans to drink, then she considered him to be smart. If not, she believed Mr. Lee Kuan Yew should be pragmatic and humble for the sake of all Singaporeans as he is representing us. And even when we can make our own water, my mother said we must still stay humble because as a small nation there are so many obstacles in front of us. Hence whatever we do we must think of the consequences.
Her wise words to us were: we must be pragmatic and be humble by building good relationships with all our neighbors especially with Malaysia, instead of carrying this false pride that we are above them.
The Chinese has a saying, “The wheel will turn to the East” and this was my mother’s constant quotation when she saw on television how the west had abused the third world countries.
=
I'm a Visionary
Like my mother, I’m a visionary, I see not only the rise of China but most of the South-east Asia countries especially Indonesia. And the rise of China will be unstoppable because they will not be cheap labor for the West forever, instead they will be creators and innovators!
Therefore, America can dream on to contain China because China is not for any nation to contain but instead all nations must work together on a win-win basis to bring peace and harmony to the world.
Hence, every waking moment I often think of Singapore’s future because from my observation of our leaders, they see ASEAN only as a cash cow and not for security sake. On top of it, many of the elites still have the old mindset that the West is number one. In my mind, how can they be number one when their success was and still is through bullying to force their way on the third world countries?
Hence, I am so fearful for Singapore’s future because our dependence on the West for our survival will be a strangle-hold on Singapore..
The elites in Singapore always carry the old mindset that America is indestructible, they cannot imagine the decline of America. Whereas my mother, Mdm Lim Soon Hing, had been waiting for the day that the Wheel will turn to the East because it seems this is the Chinese saying and most old folks believed it. But the intellectuals with western education think otherwise like Professor Koh.
Please allow me to share with you this article by Prof Tommy Koh and you will know what I meant. (The writer is Prof Tommy Koh, Chairman of the Institute of Policy Studies, National University of Singapore. Think-Tank is a weekly column rotated among eight leading figures in Singapore’s tertiary and research institution.)
Why the US will still be No. 1 in 2039
On Nov 9 1989, the world watched the fall of the Berlin Wall with amazement. The fall of the wall led, in turn, to the re-unification of Germany, the disintegration of the Soviet Union, and the dissolution of the Warsaw Pact. After half a century, the bipolar world, with the United States and the Soviet Union as the two superpowers, was replaced by a unipolar world, with the US as the hegemony. The unipolar world, however, was short-lived and has given way to a pan, China, India, Russia and Brazil as the major powers.
Until recently, no one doubted that the US was the world’s sole superpower and the world’s sole superpower and the unquestioned leader of the world. A series of reverses and self-inflicted wounds have, however, caused thoughtful individuals, in Asia and elsewhere, to ask whether the US is a declining power. At a recent meeting in Japan, a respected Japanese public intellectual asked whether we were witnessing the end of Pax America and the beginning of Pax Sinica.
I would argue that such skepticism about the US is mistaken. In my view, the US will remain No 1 in 2039, 30 years from now. My optimism is based upon the following reasons.
First, I believe that the US economy will bounce back from the current downturn and remain the most vibrant and competitive economy in the world in 2039. The US economy was on the brink of disaster last year. Decisive action by two consecutive administrations as well as Congress saved the economy from collapse. It is the American tradition to face up to problems, accept the painful medicine of reform and bounce back.
The US was prepared to allow two American icons, Lehman Brothers and General Motors, to fail. Post-crisis, I expect that Wall Street will be better regulated, that Detroit will produce more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly automobiles that the US will become a world leader in clean and renewable energy technology and businesses, and the American people will spend less and save more.
Innovation, creativity, design, marketing, information technology and talent will increasingly drive economic competitiveness in the 21st century. These are areas in which the US excels. It is likely to continue to do so in 2039.
Second, the top American universities and research institutions are among the best in the world. They serve as magnets for some of the world’s most talented students. This will likely remain so in 2039 and America will continue to benefit from a brain transfusion from the world to its top universities.
In the global war for talent, there is no country in the world that can compete with America. It has an unmatched ability to attract, retain and assimilate foreign talent. For example, over half of the tenured professors at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology are foreign-born.
American universities are the best endowed and resourced in the world, with outstanding faculty and students and a culture of learning that balances freedom and discipline, encourages risk-taking and is tolerant of failure.
Competition between nations in the 21st century will depend more on brainpower and less on material factors of production. America will continue to win the global war for talent.
Third, American has the world’s most attractive soft power. The young of the world listen to American music, watch American movies, wear American fashion and enjoy American food. The founders of Microsoft, Apple, You Tube and Twitter are all Americans.
At a deeper level, there is great admiration for American ideals and values. The three American values that resonate most with Asians are equality, meritocracy and opportunity.
The election of barrack Obama, as the 44th president of the United States, has done more to restore the world’s faith in American values and ideals that any amount of public diplomacy could have. His eloquence, his appeal to the Islamic ummah and his willingness to adopt fresh diplomatic approaches to seemingly intractable problems, have greatly strengthened the appeal of American soft power.
Fourth, America’s hard power or military power is unmatched.
Its defense budget is the largest in the world. Its military technology – on land, at sea, in the air, in space and in cyberspace – is probably a generation ahead of its nearest rivals. America continues to lead the world in research and development, and in revolution in military affairs. I expect the US will remain the world’s No. 1 military power in 2039.
A country’s total power can be either greater or less than the sum of its parts. In the case of the US, I would argue that it is greater than the sum of its parts. In the case of the US, I would argue that it is greater than the sum of its parts. Why? Because the US, as a country, is blessed with the “X” factor.
It has an allure that adds to the sum of its military, economic, intellectual, diplomatic and cultural power. It has a youthful, optimistic and joyful attitude towards life that inspires admiration. For all these reasons – and in spite of its present travails and challenges – I believe that the sun is not setting on America.
Well, I think Prof Tommy Koh only see the exterior part of America. Maybe after he read this article from Colonel Mu’ummar Qaddafi (13.04.2011) he will change his mind on America greatness and thus understand people like me who do not stand by America domination of the world!
Firstly, if the Singapore government has a vision they should take the lead to initiate the creation of the ASEAN headquarters in Indonesia. As a small nation with great financial wealth and influence, but once we failed to seize this opportunity to align closer with ASEAN in every sense of the word, then when the other ASEN countries rise up there will not be room for Singapore to play a part in the future development of the region.
For Singapore to be relevant in the future, I strongly believed our destiny lies in this region and not with the West. We can play a very important role in uplifting ASEAN but unfortunately, our leaders failed to seize this opportunity to lead. Our leaders sees life as making money and more money instead of piling the right foundation in nation building, and I mean what I say in every sense of the word.
Why try so hard to position ourselves with the West? Why don’t we use our wisdom to find ways to be closer with our neighbors, thus harmony will follow naturally and prosperity will knock on our doors? Unless the Singapore government believes forever that the West will be the dominating force then of course they don't need to bond with ASEAN except to make more money from them.

Let me share with you what I have written on January 7, 2013, to my primary schoolmate Serene Chen Pui Suan.
“Maybe after viewing this link http://www.dearmmlee.com/whats-your-book/ you can understand me better and why I can’t give up my dreams.”
This was her reply, “Thank you for sharing your thoughts and visions with me. You are very brave to embark on your journey, filled with obstacles and yet not defeated. May you be able to experience your visions in this life time?”
I told her it is not possible to realize all my dreams in my life time because besides BELIEF it needs money and power to make it happen. She said that since I know I could not realize it, then why to waste my time and money to chase it. I told her someone has to bring these visions out in the open, if not, then Singapore’s future will be at stake if we still believe that America is our protector! We cannot keep on increasing our defense budget. I would rather invest in the ASEAN countries, especially in agro.
Serene said, “Ya, 1 small step at a time; soon you will leave footprints for people to remember you. I’ve yet to find my true calling, guess I want to learn to have peace with myself first.” And this was my reply to her on Tuesday, January 15, 2013, 12:18 AM
My Dearest Serene,
I don’t need people to remember me but I need Singaporeans to know that our destiny lies with ASEAN especially China. I pray and hope Singapore will not be the venue to start WW3!! As a nation, we have only survived even though we have to reach First world statue. Mr. Goh Chok Tong when he became the Prime Minister he said that he will bring Singapore to the Swiss Standard in 2020 but he did not tell us how he is going to do it? It was not easy for me as an individual to reach the government hence I wrote to the press on April 15, 1999, and express my concern for ASEAN. I have sent to the respective leaders to make my point when PM Goh Chok Tong suggested strengthening ASEAN by road shows.
ASEAN Road Shows Urge
I refer to PM Goh Chok Tong suggestion of strengthening ASEAN'S stature by promoting ASEAN road shows (ST April 14, 1999)
Thank, to the recent regional currency crisis, it had helped to expose the true facade of ASEAN relationship. The crisis had proven that the 31 years of so-called stability was not due to non-intervention but because once the easy money from the West disappeared, total confidence was washed down the drain. Or a better expression is, without the easy money from the West the “Asian miracle’ was gone with the wind. This clearly showed that Asia needs the West to give them the confidence because they do not have confidence in themselves.
On top of it, nobody cares how ASEAN should evolve because the motto of ASEAN is ‘United we stand, alone I grow’. As shown during this crisis, instead of standing by each other through thick and thin, they were fighting like cats and dogs to the surprised of the world community. Should ASEAN still expect the West to take them seriously and continue to give ASEAN'S leaders respect and support? If respect should be earned and not expected or demanded, then I believe ASEAN had to work very hard at it.
After 31 years of existence, ASEAN had failed to pile a strong foundation for the Association because ASEAN'S leaders were too busy making money for their individual pockets. They had failed to understand that there is the need to cultivate strong roots to hold them together by creating a solid structure to support them when there is a crisis. ASEAN had not excelled as perceived to be but just managed to survive because the key mistake of the ASEAN leaders are in their failure to realize the need to nurture talents is more important than controlling the minds of the people.
Therefore, instead of plastic surgery in fact what ASEAN really needs is complete internal surgery, especially mentally – Changing Mindset. ASEAN cannot move forward constructively if they are in constant denial. When are they going to grow up and wake up? Isn’t this currency crisis a wakeup call already? Do they need a war before they take drastic action to strengthen ASEAN? ASEAN leaders should be outwards looking, but they are turning inwards by going around the bush giving excuses instead of taking full responsibility in their failings. ASEAN does not have any more time to waste as they had already wasted 31 years of precious time by being polite to the stage of insincerity even hypocrisy.
Therefore, ASEAN does not need road shows, or ASLAF at the moment because ASEM had been proven to be a failure. The absence of several European nations at the Asia-Europe meeting (ASEM) of foreign ministers in Berlin is proving of what I said. ASEAN'S leaders are shortsighted because they lack vision and understanding to realize as long as ASEAN is not seen as a united force, they will be taken lightly. Moreover, ASEAN must know how to walk before they run, therefore all the effort to make ASEM respectable will be a waste of money, time, resources and energy if ASEAN is still not seen as a strong union.
How to make ASEAN a united force? By integrating ASEAN right now and not one minute later! But before ASEAN could work on it, they must first face the truly hard and painful fact and admit at least to themselves that if not openly that ASEAN had never been a credible body due to its non-intervention rules and its puppet-like organizational arrangement. How is ASEAN going to change this mindset when after 31 years of the ‘ ASEAN way’, they had accepted this attitude and behavior as part of their culture like the Indonesians had accepted corruption, cronyism, and nepotism as part and parcel of their existence? I strongly believe this attitude should be discouraged because as an Association ASEAN cannot move forward. Moreover, it is not healthy for the future leaders to emulate.
Although ASEM seems important and ASLAF with the support of Japan looks credible, but through my observation, I still believe without a single doubt that ASEAN being the roots must be strong because without strong roots how can the trunk and branches grow. Therefore, the credibility of ASEAN is vital for survival, peace, and security in the region. Above all, the success of ASEAN is about Asian’s pride. No one nation should try and dilute ASEAN for their agenda!
Therefore, ASEAN first need is to heal internally by rethinking ASEAN foreign and internal policies. After 31 years in ASEAN history, there had never been any milestones, no defining moments and no historical treaties that have changed the course and nature of the Association. Therefore, without forthright discussions on controversial subjects, ASEAN failed to meet the political and economic challenges taken as a region. In other words, ASEAN must reinvent itself and prepare for the challenges of the next millennium by discarding the old image and make their policies reverent in today contact and make it work for ASEAN. Is that too difficult a call!
To achieve the objective, ASEAN needs to have the ability to institutionalize and provide an identity for regional Association. To instill the spirit of ASEAN into itself, especially for individual and business organization within ASEAN region and beyond, they need a central base or a place they can call ‘home’ where they are free to meet and be together to enable them to foster the spirit of brotherhood. In order for the spirit of ASEAN brotherhood to develop to its fullest potentials, the ASEAN House will be the ideal place to nurture such a spirit.
After 32 years, it is time to create a home for ASEAN and for all Southeast Asians because ASEAN cannot continue to be seen as a ‘traveling circus’.
ASEAN House will embody the region’s spirit and identity at various levels. The architecture and size of the building will blend both symbolic and functioned aspects. To embark on the development of such a massive building complex amidst the currency turmoil and economic crisis in the region will provide the international community a strong signal that the ASEAN spirit, solidarity, and strength is very much alive.
ASEAN needs to show not only to the world but also most importantly to all Southeast Asians that they are serious in ASEAN'S future by supporting the building of the ASEAN House. Since Brunei and Singapore show sincerity to help strengthen the grouping, though small and harbored no ambition to lead ASEAN, they can still be the catalysts not only in providing ideas but most importantly, due to their financial strength that they can also provide the funds to build the ASEAN House. This action will be very laudable in the eyes of the world community, especially in the hearts of all Southeast Asians.
ASEAN House will lift ASEAN into an entirely new level in terms of regional cooperation and integration, provide the Association a secretarial befitting the size and importance of ASEAN socio-economic and spiritual development. Symbolically the ASEAN House will represent the region’s awakening, committed to developing economic as well as cultural richness from which people may draw pride and strength.
In short, this House is to fill the vacuum left by Suharto to enable it to play a symbolic role similar to the United Nations, in order for the future generations of leaders to have a sense of direction of statesmanship in the running of the association. If the present leaders refuse to make changes by integrating the Association, they will create an obstacle for the future generations of leaders.
Now with the puppet master gone for good, ASEAN should grab this opportunity for renewal. Since the failure of ASEM, ASEAN had invited to support ASLAF, this means Japan support is very important for ASEAN success. Therefore, it is ideal for ASEAN to call upon Japan to help fill this vacuum by playing a catalytic role to rebuild ASEAN confidence.
ASEAN will be a community in control of its own fortunes and destiny. Self-determination must be the first commitment for peace in Southeast Asia and the ASEAN House reaffirm this commitment and reinforce a Southeast Asia that is strong and resilient in all the political, economic, and social and security fundaments. Therefore, ASEAN House will be a symbol of unity and a constant reminder to Southeast Asians to work together to achieve regional economic prosperity and spiritual developments, which are keys to ASEAN'S success. This means the vital role of the ASEAN House will promote and unite the people of the ASEAN countries on the basis of common interests and objectives to develop and consolidate the identity, spirit, and sense of ASEAN community.
For your knowledge to be in the First world state, Singapore needs great thinkers and creative talents in order for Singapore to excel and what I see in front of me is the MNC since the day of nation building. Well in one short sentence, I surmise that Mr. Goh Chok Tong is ALL WORDS but NO ACTIONS in nurturing local talents! Because if there is action, he will be giving a hand to Mr. Sim Wong Hoo during his difficult times.
Mr. Ngiam Tong Dow told Strait Times Journalists why Singapore should just aim to be solid “second-upper” city. This article appeared on 12 Jan 2013 ST.
I always believe Singapore should do more, not only for its own people but also for ASEAN like coming out the initiate funding for the ASEAN headquarter in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Chasing the impossible dream - alone
Frankly speaking, ASEAN don’t need great fight between Mr. Lee Kuan Yew and PM Dr Mahathir or any Road Show initiated by PM Goh Chok Tong, instead what ASEAN needs is a Great Vision that can translate into a Mission because ASEAN without a Powerful Vision is without Great Leadership.
Since I could not have the Singapore Foreign Ministry to hear me out, I decided to go chase this impossible dream alone. Besides being the sole financier (cost of the architecture proposal was US$25K.) for this Concept proposal of the ASEAN House, I am also the visionary for the concept designs of this project.
ASEAN Vision 2020 is to unite the region with one common language ‘English’, therefore, my aspiration when the money is available through the development will go into English study, and the rest to be invested into the 'ASEAN Education Fund' for the youths to prevent them from becoming fundamentalists in the future. So much to do for ASEAN but unfortunately the ASEAN’s culture or the ASEAN ways is talk and talk and NO ACTION so I, Chong Sun Wah is a doer so I took action to share with the ASEAN Leader my vision for ASEAN 2020.
I fully agreed that as an individual I am not qualified to give big ideas especially without paper qualifications, but my heart is crying out loud for ASEAN - my key objective is to sound out loud enough that we need to integrate ASEAN. I hope as time passes by, the idea of an ASEAN House will sink in with the masses and you will never know - with all the old leaders passing on, we will see the ASEAN House rise up with pride and dignity representing all our aspirations for the region. I have this kind of thinking because I do not want the west to dominate Asia like they did in Latin America and especially the Middle East.
Well even if I have to go to jail it is still worth it to fight for this cause, especially my children supported me wholeheartedly in this aspiration to bring about an ASEAN Headquarter to pile the right foundation for their future because Singapore's future is in the hand of a strong and stable ASEAN, period!! My son Gabriel Georges Habib believes one fine day someone would help to realize this beautiful ASEAN’s Vision.
I have wholeheartedly given my life to achieve this aspiration of the ASEAN House with the hope that one day it can play the role of integrating world cultures, thus taking the leadership in uplifting the Muslim communities around the region. Most Muslim organizations lack of funds to do what they need to do for the young’s, hence there is a need for ASEAN to play a bigger role in the Muslim's affairs to help them integrate for the sake of the greater humanity.
I believe strongly that the ASEAN Headquarters is long overdue and the ASEAN heads of government must support the building of the ASEAN House if they are serious in ASEAN’s future.

Is ASEAN A Credible Body?
In 1967 when ASEAN was formed, my uneducated mother said that there could never be a true ASEAN as long as Malaysia and Singapore were fighting like cats and dogs. Only when they stop fighting and look beyond, then ASEAN will have a bright future striving for greater humanity fostering the spirit of true brotherhood.
She said that ASEAN was a false facade because the various leaders did not have the good intentions to lift the people. They care for their survival to stay in power, instead of creating great leaders to lead ASEAN.
Next I will get the government to pay for the blueprint cost in the total planning and concept design for the ASEAN Headquarters named ASEAN House. Last, but not least, I would set up a committee to consider the possibility to develop a creative universal spiritual education for the secular schools.
After 31 years of existence, ASEAN had failed to build a strong foundation for the Association, because ASEAN’s leaders were too busy making money for their individual pockets. They had failed to understand that there is the need to cultivate strong roots to hold them together by creating a solid structure to support them when there is a crisis.
ASEAN had not excelled as perceived to be but just managed to survive, because the key mistake of the Asean leaders is in their failure to realize that the need to nurture talents is more important than controlling the minds of the people.
Therefore, instead of plastic surgery, in fact what ASEAN really needs is complete internal overhaul, especially mentally – Changing Mindsets. ASEAN cannot move forward constructively if they are in constant denial.
When are they going to grow up and wake up? Isn’t this currency crisis a wakeup call already? Do they need a war before they take drastic action to strengthen ASEAN?
ASEAN’s leaders should be forward looking, but they are turning inwards by going round the bush giving excuses instead of taking full responsibility for their failures. ASEAN does not have any more time to waste as they had already wasted 31 years of precious time by being polite to the stage of insincerity and hypocrisy.
Therefore, ASEAN must reinvent itself and prepare for the challenges of the next millennium by discarding the old image and make their policies relevant and make it work for ASEAN.
Is that too difficult a call?
To achieve the objective, ASEAN needs to have the ability to institutionalize and provide an identity for regional Association. To instill the spirit of ASEAN, they need a central base, or a place they can call ‘home’, where they are free to meet and be together to enable them to foster the spirit of brotherhood. The ASEAN House will be the ideal place to nurture such a spirit.
ASEAN needs to show not only to the world but also most importantly to all Southeast Asians that they are serious in ASEAN’s future by supporting the building of the ASEAN House. Since Brunei and Singapore show sincerity to help strengthen the grouping, though small and harboring no ambitions to lead ASEAN, they can be the catalysts not only in providing ideas but most importantly, the funds to build the ASEAN House. This action will be very laudable in the eyes of the world community, especially in the hearts of all Southeast Asians.
ASEAN House will lift ASEAN into an entirely new level in regional cooperation and integration, providing the Association a Base befitting the size and importance of ASEAN socio-economic and spiritual development. Symbolically the ASEAN House will represent the region’s awakening, committed to developing economic as well as cultural richness from which people may draw pride and strength.
ASEAN House will be a symbol of unity and a constant reminder to Southeast Asians to work together to achieve regional economic prosperity and spiritual developments, which are keys to ASEAN’s success. This means the vital role of the ASEAN House will promote and unite the people of the ASEAN countries on the basis of common interests and objectives to develop and consolidate the identity, spirit, and sense of ASEAN community.
I strongly believe Singapore can do more for ASEAN like funding the construction of the ASEAN Headquarters which is long overdue. As a small nation we should be loud with action, this mean lead with action. And trust me our silent action will gain great respect instead of fearing that others will attack us. This kind of mentality must stop if we want to excel beyond our imagination.
Whether the government can see what I am trying to achieve is not important because at least the message is out on my blog that Singapore should be humble and lead from behind because this is the way to gain respect and hence will be admired by many instead of talking BIG without substance.
If we can achieve that, we will never be fearful that others will take over Singapore. So this means we don’t need to spend about $27 billion for defense.
You might say that I am idealistic in my thinking, but for a tiny red dot, no matter how hard you want to defend ourselves against one tiny bomb, especially if it is a nuclear bomb, we will all be gone in one second no matter how much you spent in defence!
So my wise mind tells me we better build good relationships with our ASEAN neighbors, especially Malaysia. WE ARE ALL ASIAN AND NOT WHITE SKINNED!!
Conclusion
The ASEAN House will be multi-functional and can generate its own income through a BOT (Built Operate & Transfer) scheme which will make a significant contribution to ASEAN Foundation for all its programmes.
Most importantly, ASEAN House will be a symbol for unity and a constant reminder to Southeast Asians to work together to achieve regional economic prosperity and spiritual developments, which are keys for ASEAN'S success.
I was so passionate about ASEAN'S future that in 1998 I have written a book with the title ‘ASEAN'S Future is Our Future’ besides coming out with a concept proposal for the ASEAN Headquarter in Indonesia because I felt the urgency to pile this foundation for ASEAN great future.
How I came to write this book ASEAN’S Future is our future?
One day in early March 1998 I got a phone call from a lady working with the Singapore Tourist Promotion Board. She asked for donation of 2 harps for the Center of the Arts.
It so happened that my music teacher wanted to get rid of his almost new harp at half the price at $7000. I like to do a good deed, killing 2 birds with one stone.
I took this opportunity to do so. I called the lady back and said that I cannot afford to donate 2 harps, but I am willing to donate one. And besides donating the harp, I will give them $2000 to help me to write the book on ASEAN’s Future is Our Future. She consulted the director for the Center of the Arts and he agreed to my terms of donation and invited me for lunch to meet up with the director. After that meeting, his staff contacted me for the money. I wrote a cheque for $9000 and handed it to Ms Ho, secretary to the director of the Center of the Arts.
The director was not free to meet up with me instead he sent his secretary to hear me out and I invited her for lunch and handed her the materials for my book.
Unfortunately, after that I never hear from her except to give me a name to get in touch with.
Sadly, they never bought the harp from my music teacher, and they never kept to their promises to publish my book. I was very sad.

ASEAN’S Future Is Our Future
Touching on the subject of the vision for ASEAN’S future and a proposal for the building of an ASEAN House in Indonesia, which is long over-due, is contained in this book, “ASEAN’S Future Is Our Future” written by me. To be sure, this is what I had vision, aimed at and worked for and hopefully it will come to pass in due course.
Doubtless, this will go a long way to show the need for the ASEAN head of governments to support the building of the ASEAN House if they are serious in ASEAN’S future.
ASEAN House will be multi-functional and can generate its own income through a BOT scheme, (Built Operate & Transfer) which will make a significant contribution to ASEAN Foundation for all its programs. Most importantly, ASEAN House will be a symbol for unity and a constant reminder to Southeast Asians to work together to achieve regional economic prosperity and spiritual developments, which are keys for ASEAN success.
