Pacific414 Pop Talk Watch Party Featuring The Original Robocop & 2014's Robocop Reboot

Welcome one and all to Pacific414 Pop Talk for Sunday September 14, 2025!

On this edition of Pacific414 Pop Talk, we will be watching and commentating on the 2014 reboot of the 1987 sci-fi classic Robocop.

In the 2014 reboot, Joel Kinnaman takes over the role of Alex Murphy/Robocop made famous by Peter Weller in a more cyberpunk version of the titular character who is still half man and half machine after a brutal accident that turns Alex Murphy into the future of law enforcement.

Robocop 2014 was released by MGM Studios in partnership with Columbia Pictures on February 12, 2014 with directorial duties falling to José Padilha. The films cast also features Samuel L. Jackson as Pat Novak, Michael Keaton as Raymond Sellers, Gary Oldman as Dr. Dennett Norton, Jackie Earle Haley as Rick Mattox with Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Abbie Cornish, Michael Kenneth Williams and K.C. Collins.

When compared to the original 1987, the 2014 version of Robocop does receive some criticisms for being a PG-13 rated film as opposed to the originals R rating and story elements not flowing together all to well among other critiques.
